Why I Thought I Would Be Killed in Texas

So I’m brand new to Texas, and when my girlfriend Ashley and I moved here from Illinois I was convinced a serial killer was going to end us. Here’s why.

Ashley is a Marine veteran, and when she found out we were moving to the BCS area, she joined a local veterans Facebook group, and was just asking for some tips on the area. Well, one woman in particular in this group was RIDICULOUSLY friendly and helpful. Just super duper nice, offering to do all this stuff to help us in our move, even sent us a gift basket when we came to visit for my contract signing. And I thought: “This lady is going to murder us.”
Because nobody is that nice in Illinois! I thought that this woman must be acting so nice so that she could lure us to her home and keep us locked in a pit in her basement or something! It’s the only explanation, PEOPLE JUST AREN’T THIS NICE.
But people ARE that nice in Texas it turns out. Living in the midwest most of my life I’m just not used to that southern hospitality. People are just nice and welcoming and want you to have a great time here. Turns out that woman is super cool, and her and her family are going to be good friends of ours for years.
I want you to know that if you’ve never been outside of Texas, you need to realize how great the people are here, the rest of the country is not this cool, seriously. So please, appreciate your friendly fellow Texans, and keep up the good work welcoming the outsiders like me!
