Three Myths About Your Metabolism

Your metabolism ISN'T genetic.  YOU control it.

Myth #1.  If you're overweight, it's because you have a slow metabolism.  The truth is your metabolism is actually FASTER when you're overweight, because the extra weight forces your body to work harder.  The same thing happens if you have a lot of muscle.

But when you're taking in way too many calories, your body can't compensate, even with a faster metabolic rate.  And that's when you start gaining weight.

Myth #2.  Your metabolism automatically slows down as you get older.  That's the TREND.  But the only reason it happens is because people tend to stop exercising, and they lose muscle mass. If you keep exercising, eat right, and get enough sleep, your metabolism should stay the same, even into your 50s and 60s.

Myth #3.  Running is the best way to boost your metabolism.  The truth is it burns more calories than pretty much anything else.  But lifting weights is the best way to boost your metabolism, because it adds muscle.
