Eric Church’s Emotional Tribute To Vegas

ERIC CHURCH was the headliner at Friday’s Route 91 Fest in Vegas . . . and he’s still reeling from the tragedy that happened two nights later.  He talked about it during his show on Wednesday at the Grand Ole Opry.
He remembered going into the Vegas crowd to shake everybody’s hand.  Quote, “I went all the way down the right side.  Came back up the left side.  Smiling faces.  Hands in the air.  Pictures being taken.  I told them, ‘Thank you for coming.'”
He talked about after the shooting when he saw Anderson Cooper interview a woman named Heather Melton.  Her husband Sonny died while shielding her from the bullets.  They went to the festival because Eric was her husband’s favorite artist.
She said they were also looking forward to going to the Opry the next night.  Eric then pointed to two seats that were left empty in their honor.  He said, quote, “The reason I’m here tonight is because of Heather and Sonny.”
He said the shooting “broke something” inside of him and the only way to fix that is through music.  So, he wrote a new song called “Why Not Me”  . . . and then he started playing it.
