Texas A&M employs more than 26,000 people who help keep the university running at its peak – and unsurprisingly, working with this tight-knit community has its benefits.
In fact, it was the only university in Texas to make Newsweek’s list of ‘America’s Greatest Workplaces’, a prestigious ranking that names only 14 universities. 1000 workplaces and more than 250,000 workers were surveyed nationwide throughout 2022 and 2023 on job satisfaction. The final ranking considers the top companies whose employees find it easy to stay engaged, according to Newsweek editors.
Factors that contribute to each workplaces’ ranking include compensation and benefits, training and career progression, work-life balance, and company culture. Texas A&M is in amazing company, ranging from Texas Instruments and NRG Energy to other educational institutions such as Harvard and Georgetown.
“What makes A&M special is our people; they are the foundation of this university’ssuccess. From our world-class faculty to our exceptionally talented staff, our employees are passionate about this university and what it stands for – things like pride, patriotism, service, family, loyalty and respect,”
-General (Ret.) Mark A. Welsh III, president of Texas A&M.
Damon Slaydon, vice president of the Division of Human Resources and Organizational
Effectiveness (HROE), celebrates the recognition, saying, “(The ranking) underscores the excellence of Texas A&M and, most importantly, our Core Values of Loyalty, Respect and Integrity. These are intangible qualities that attract top talent and foster strong bonds, which are key to retaining the outstanding employees who lead efforts that supports the future of Texas, our nation and the world.” Slaydon also referenced HROE’s “people-centric” approach, explaining that “New employee onboarding welcomes team members with a heartfelt ‘HOWDY!’ and promotes a seamless transition into our team. We take immense pride in these, and many other initiatives aimed at creating the best employee experience at Texas A&M.”
The university offers advanced relevant career paths to employees through market-driven compensation assessments. Slaydon credited all of A&M’s employees for making the university a great place to work. “Each and every one of our 26,000 employees is a vital member of our team, contributing to Texas A&M mission to prepare students for leadership, responsibility, and service to society.”
