Your House Is a Mess . . . What Are Your Friends Most Likely to Judge?

Sometimes people wind up at your place when it's a mess.  Maybe it's a surprise visit, maybe you just didn't have time to clean…

The question is:  What are they going to JUDGE?

According to a new survey, the thing that people are most likely to notice is . . . a terrible SMELL.  Clutter is second . . . a dirty toilet bowl is third . . . and dirty kitchen counters are fourth.

The survey also found the cleaning chores we hate doing the most are scrubbing the shower, and cleaning the toilet.

And only 5% of people hire a maid to clean their house . . . the other 95% do it themselves or split it with their family.

3 CIA Interrogation Techniques to Use on Your Kids

Three former CIA officers just put out a book called "Get the Truth" that's all about tricking people into being honest.  Here are three tricks you can use on anyone, including your KIDS.  And no . . . waterboarding didn't make the list.

1.  Pretend you understand completely.  Get them to think you know the truth, and that you get WHY they did what they did under the circumstances.  Then act like the whole thing is a misunderstanding, and it won't be a big deal if they're honest about it.

They might end up hating you when you DO make a big deal out of it.  But if all you want is the truth, that's the first step.

2.  Don't be judgmental . . . at least not YET.  Once they start being honest, don't show your hand and start yelling at them.  They might have more to say, but they're less likely to say it once it's clear you actually ARE angry.

3.  Don't make one parent the good cop, and one the bad cop.  The whole good-cop-bad-cop thing is a Hollywood invention . . . and it doesn't actually work.

Instead you should BOTH be the good cop.  Then once they tell you the truth, you can bring the hammer down if you need to.

The Reason People Today Think They're Smarter Than They Actually Are Is . . . Google

Psychologists at Yale University have found that our ability to look up anything instantly has made us all THINK we actually know more than we do.

They ran a study where they had some people research a topic like "Why are cloudy nights warmer?" by reading a book or talking to a tutor . . . but they also had some people research it online.

When they tested everyone afterward, the people who did the Internet research were MUCH more confident and thought they were much more knowledgeable than the other people.

The researchers say, quote, "With the Internet, the lines become blurry between what you know and what you think you know.  Accurate knowledge is difficult to achieve, and the Internet may be making that task even harder."

Five Random Facts For Thursday

1.  There are only three countries in the world where your boss is more likely to be a woman than a man:  Jamaica, Colombia, and St. Lucia.

2.  "Looney Tunes" cartoons were originally created by Warner Brothers as a way to showcase new music.  Obviously the cartoons themselves became much more popular.

3.  The "red phone" that's a direct connection from the Pentagon to Russia has never been red OR a phone.  It was originally a teletype machine . . . then a fax machine . . . and now it's an email account.

4.  'N Sync made a cameo in "Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones"George Lucas's daughter loved them, so he put them in the background of a scene . . . but they were cut out of the final version.

5.  The idea for tin foil hats came from a short science fiction story called "The Tissue-Culture King" in 1927.  The main character uses a hat made out of foil to block people from reading his mind.

MISS CLEO is back.  But this time when you call her, she doesn't tell your fortune . . . she tells you how AWESOME you are.  It's part of her gig as the new spokeswoman for Benefit Cosmetics.  Sadly, you don't get to talk to Miss Cleo when you call.  It's just a recorded message.

CHRISTOPHER WALKEN and KEVIN SPACEY will co-star in a movie about a man who gets trapped INSIDE A CAT.  (???)  It's called "Nine Lives".  Kevin is the one who gets stuck in the cat's body.  Christopher is playing the owner of a mystical pet shop, who somehow helps him out.

COUNTRY NEWS

Kacey Musgraves "Doesn't Ever" Wash Her Hair

KACEY MUSGRAVES has been known to sport some big hair . . . so "Cosmopolitan" magazine asked how long it takes her to get it looking that way.

She said, "It depends on if I'm in the mood to really go for it.  And I don't ever wash my hair.  You can tell everybody that.  This is probably day eight, right here.  I just dry shampoo it up.  I've gone, most recently, 12 days."

You heard right.  12 days, because the longer she avoids liquid shampoo, the better.

"I feel like my hair gets better and better as I go!  Which is weird.  Maybe no one around me is telling me that I have a hygiene problem.  I wash my body, folks, okay?  So yeah, just don't wash your hair."

"You're Lookin' at Country" with Loretta Lynn . . . I'm lookin' at her hair.

Every Tim McGraw Song Has Some '70s Influence

There's a sliver of TIM MCGRAW's youth in every single song he's ever recorded.  He says, quote, "I grew up in the '70s and I'm a child of the '70s.  That kinda music is really what made me fall in love with music.

"So, you could probably pick apart any song that I've ever done and find some '70s in it."  When asked to describe his own musical style, he said, quote, "It's like George Strait, Merle Haggard, and the Eagles all meshed together."

DON WILLIAMS has been adding dates to his current tour, that ends November 20th at the Paramount Theatre in Austin…he is going all across the USA before returning to Texas in late fall, with November shows also in Stafford and Midland….

Kenny Chesney Chooses Comfort Over Style When it Comes to Stage Clothes

When I picture KENNY CHESNEY, I see him in jeans and a T-shirt.  Pretty sure he does too.  He says, quote, "I spend less money than any act in the world on stage clothes.  I don't care what I look like.  I just want to be comfortable."

Asked for his pick on the most fashionable country star, he goes with RASCAL FLATTS guitarist JOE DON ROONEY.  Kenny says, "He always looks like he's got a nice suit on or something.  I think Joe Don dresses real nice."

COUNTRY MUSIC EXTRAS

This wasn’t an April Fools joke . . .  It's official:  STEVEN TYLER is recording a country album.  He made the announcement Tuesday night during a surprise visit to the Grand Ole Opry.  No word on a title or release date.  (Rolling Stone)

He did give a clue about who he's writing it with.  Before his performance he Tweeted a pic of him standing with ERIC PASLAY and songwriter Lindsey Lee Taylor.  He captioned it, "Growing some new songs."

MIRANDA LAMBERT did a couple of cover songs at her show on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.  She went acoustic for MERLE HAGGARD's "The Way I Am".  She also tore through LED ZEPPELIN's "Rock 'N' Roll".
